Colfax Opens Defense Centre of Excellence in Mumbai
NEW DELHI, Oct 27, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Colfax Corporation (NYSE: CFX), a global leader in fluid-handling solutions for critical applications, has opened a Defense Centre of Excellence (COE) in Mumbai, India. The company announced the news today at the India International Civil & Defence Equipment & Systems (IICDES) Exhibition & Conference in New Delhi, India, where it is exhibiting pump technologies - marketed through its local Tushaco business - used by the Indian Navy and other defense customers.
"The Colfax Defense Centre of Excellence in Mumbai joins our other centres - located in Tours, France, and Warren, Mass. - to provide a global network of support for our defense customers," said John A. Young, president and CEO of Colfax. "These three locations have specialized staff, fabrication facilities and equipment tailored to meet the specific needs of the defense industry. This is another example of our commitment to work closely with our customers, to provide tailored fluid-handling solutions."
The Colfax Defense Solutions business offers its customers a broad portfolio of pumps, valves and controls - including proven brands such as Allweiler, Fairmount Automation, Imo, Portland Valve, Tushaco and Warren - to pump fuel, lubricating oil, hydraulics, cooling water, ballast water, weapon coolants and fire-suppression liquids/chemicals that keep defense operations running smoothly around the world. Additionally, through its Defense COEs, Colfax is able to provide custom-engineered fluid-handling solutions and "plug-and-play" modules. These turnkey modules include integrated pumps, motors, valves and control systems that deliver precision performance to meet the rigorous requirements of military applications. Colfax also provides critical testing and certification services for shock resistance, noise and vibration, and electromagnetic compatibility.
"Defense customers around the world have come to rely on Colfax, because of our global expertise in fluid-handling applications for use in the defense market," said V. Balakrishnan, country manager of the Colfax business in India. "The COE established in India, along with our existing enhanced manufacturing and other facilities, aims to provide necessary fluid-handling assembly and testing capabilities, solutions and expertise to our defense customers."
Pankaj Sharma, manager of Colfax's navy and marine markets in India, added, "Reducing noise and vibration is particularly important for naval defense applications, considering that vessels must operate as quietly as possible to avoid detection."
In addition to other projects, the Mumbai COE, through Tushaco, is currently supplying spare parts and overhaul for pumps fitted onboard an Asian navyvessel purchased from the U.S. Navy. The centre is also working closely with a large shipbuilder to provide fully tested TUSHACO((R)) pumps for submarines to be used by navies in Asia and worldwide.
Colfax's Tushaco business began operating in India in 1968, and has manufacturing facilities in Daman and Vapi, as well as sales offices in Chennai, Secunderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi.
