Maurel et Prom selects Colfax's Allweiler(R), Warren(R) and Imo(R) pumps for its western Africa oil field

Colfax Corporation (NYSE: CFX), a global leader in fluid-handling solutions for critical applications, today announced a $2 million order for pumping systems from French oil company Maurel et Prom. Colfax's Allweiler(R), Warren(R) and Imo(R) pumps will be used to move crude oil through a new 145-kilometer pipeline connecting an oil-field production plant in Onal to a refinery in Coucal, both located in Gabon, on the western coast of Africa.

"We are pleased to support Maurel et Prom's pipeline expansion project in western Africa," said Colfax President and CEO John A. Young. "The Colfax portfolio of pump technologies has not only demonstrated its reliability and durability in the harshest and most remote oil fields in the world but, in the case of Maurel et Prom, the ability to deliver a complete engineered system with two-screw and progressing cavity pumps operating in series."

The order includes nine Allweiler progressing cavity pumps and six Warren two-screw pumps as well as two Imo skid-mounted pump systems. According to Daniel Joslin, managing director of Colfax Imo Pompes located in Tours, France, "The screw pumps act as pipe-acceleration pumps to move up to 30,000 barrels of crude oil every day and clean the pipeline with water at a rate of 50 cubic meters/hr (13,000 gallons per hour) at 50 bar."

Joslin added, "The progressing cavity pumps support five warming stations in the pipeline that ensure the oil's ability to flow, critical in the Onal oil fields where the crude is unusually viscous, from 30 to 1,380 centipoises. They also reliably move the raw crude oil to upstream treatment systems where it is cleansed of water, paraffin and other foreign contaminants before entering the pipeline."

The order also includes two complete Imo skid-mounted pump systems that employ a progressing cavity pump to empty a tank filled with a water and crude oil mixture and another that provides fire-fighting capabilities with three centrifugal pumps.

Two additional Allweiler pumps are used at the opposite end of the pipeline near the refinery that will process the crude oil. One is a centrifugal pump for cleaning the exterior of the pipeline, and the other is a progressing cavity pump used on a skid for cleaning the interior.

Maurel et Prom commented that the pump selection was based on the deep application expertise and technical support in crude oil applications from Colfax. The company's collaborative approach - for example, conducting special performance tests with oil and water was also an important decision factor.

The Colfax pumps comply with the American Petroleum Institute's API Standard 676 for rotary positive displacement pumps for use in the petroleum, chemical and gas industries as well as the European Union's Atmospheres Explosibles (ATEX) safety requirements.
